DESCRIPTION

Very varied excursion and suitable for those who want to have a first experience on medium mountain paths in a context of rare beauty that runs along a stretch of the ring around the Sassolungo (Langkofel in German, Saslonch in Ladin).

You gain part of the difference in altitude with the chairlift that takes you from Monte Pana to Mont Seura at an altitude of 2025 meters and from here you walk along the path at the foot of the majestic north face of the Sassolungo (more than 1000 meters high) until you come across a deviation: from here the path becomes steeper… from here you go up into the valley that separates the Sassolungo from the walls of the Sassopiatto, surrounded by grandiose rock walls which millions of years ago were gigantic coral reefs, until you reach the Rifugio Vicenza where you stop for a sweet refreshing break admiring the northern wall and the glacial basin of Sassopiatto. We continue the journey continuing the circumnavigation towards the south-east until the large prominence of the Piza da Uridl at 2101 metres, where the gaze is lost contemplating the splendid scenery of the Alpe di Siusi, the Sciliar and the Catinaccio: this is the ideal place for the well-deserved lunch break (packed). The return route to Monte Pana is all downhill and passes through beautiful spruce and larch woods, bringing a gentle end to this exciting and picturesque excursion.
