DESCRIPTION

Fascinating circular excursion that allows you to reach the top of Col da la Pieres at an altitude of 2753 metres.

We are in the heart of the Puez-Odle Natural Park in Val Gardena and this circular itinerary touches points of great landscape interest offering breathtaking views of the Sella, Sassolungo, Odle, Puez and Cir Groups. After gaining part of the difference in altitude with the Col Raiser cable car, you go up the scenic canal that leads to the slender Piza fork characterized by a singular rocky pinnacle that stands like a gendarme watching over the surrounding walls.

From here you follow the path that leads to the beautiful summit cross of Col da la Pieres with an astonishing view of the northern walls of the Sella. On the way back you first cross the green Stevia plateau with the characteristic refuge where you stop for lunch; after which you cross the Forcella San Silvestro and from here you return to the starting point.

  • Where: Gardena and Fassa Dolomites – Province of Bolzano
  • Difficulty and physical effort: medium-challenging excursion. Positive height difference of 800 meters and negative height difference of approximately 1200 metres; Approximately 13 km long.
  • Travel time: 6 hours plus stops (8 hours total)
  • Period: from June to October
  • Meeting and arrival point: departure of the “Col Raiser” cable car in Santa Cristina
  • Equipment: sturdy trekking shoes or mountain boots with non-slip soles (such as Vibram); telescopic trekking poles; backpack with: rainproof and windproof jacket, heavy down jacket, water bottle with water/drink and snacks (energy food such as bars or chocolate), spare T-shirt, sunglasses and sun cream, sun hat and headband (type Buff”), backpack cover (rainproof)

Number of participants: minimum 2 – maximum 8 people
