DESCRIPTION
A journey to discover the charm of the Supramonte of Baunei between sea and mountains, through the Mediterranean scrub and thick holm oak forests, along the very high coasts overlooking the deep Tyrrhenian Sea. Our stops will include the most beautiful coves of the Gulf of Orosei and visits to old sheepfolds.
Born at the end of the 80s from the intuition of Mario Verin and Peppino Cicalò under the aegis of the then mayor of Baunei, Pasquale Zucca, the Selvaggio Blu is considered the most challenging trek in Italy. A unique route of its kind that follows the traces of the ancient paths of goat herders and charcoal burners and which remains as close as possible to the cliffs overlooking the sea.
We will discover a harsh and fascinating territory and experience days full of emotions and suggestions in an isolated and intact environment. Each stage will give us new and adventurous landscapes and situations: we will follow the faint and never predictable trace of these ancient paths, where a good sense of orientation is necessary as well as prudence and concentration when crossing the sharp limestone blades of the furrowed fields; we will face easy equipped climbing sections, we will climb ladders made of juniper trunks, we will encounter the suggestive “Coili” (the ancient shepherds’ shelters), we will abseil down on a double rope overlooking the sea. The deep blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea will be our faithful travel companion and will refresh us during each stage.
We will walk with a light backpack with everything needed for the daily excursion; the rest of the equipment, water and everything needed for dinner and the night’s bivouac will be transported by a local agency via jeep or dinghy. We will sleep in a typical sheepfold and bivouac outdoors in contemplation of the starry sky, appreciating a simple and natural lifestyle: the lack of the typical comforts of our daily life will be amply compensated by the beauty of the places and the flavors of Sardinian gastronomy.
